Commonwealth Games 2010 (2nd series) - Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and Talkatora Stadium 1.8.2010

India Post in the Commonwealth Games – 2010 series is happy to issue a set of commemorative postage stamps on Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and Talkatora Stadium.


The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, in Delhi was constructed to host 9th Asian Gamesin 1982. The massive facility in an all-purpose sports arena hosting football and other sporting events, as well as large-scale entertainment events. The stadium can accommodate 75000 spectators. It is one of the biggest stadiums in lndia and the 57th the largest in the world. The upcoming Commonwealth Games  2010 will be held in this stadium from October 03-14, 2010. The stadium will also have two new venues, four synthetic greens for the Lawn Bowls event and a 2500 seat gymnasium for the weightlifting event. In addition 150 m long tunnel is being constructed for the opening and closing ceremonies as well as the Athletics Events of XIX commonwealth Games.
Talkatora Indoor Stadium at New Delhi was constructed to host 9th Asian Games in 1982 with recycle building materials and fly ash and boasting on heat reflective glass.This is dome shaped stadium and eco-friendly with solar lights, energy efficiency lights, rain water harvesting and the wonderful green lawns. Talkatora Stadium is the unique example of modern architecture skills. It can accommodate 2,700 spectators. In this complex, boxing event of Commonwealth Games 2010 will be held on from 05-13th October 2010.
