Children's Day 2006

The department of Posts brings out stamps on Children’s Day every year, which are designed by a child. To select the stamp design, the department organizes an All India Stamp Design Competition. The theme for this Competition in 2006 was ‘My favourite mythological hero’ or ‘My favourite fairy tale’. Looking into these paintings, it is sure that the future lies in the hands of a very positive and talented generation, that sees hope in the culture, tradition and faith in our daily lives.

This year’s stamps are based on painting made by Master Keval Thakkar, a student of Amarjyoti Saraswati Vidyalaya Kalvibid, Bhavnagar, Gujarat and Master Shivanna T. Madvi, a student of Dada Vaidya High School, Curti, Ponda, Goa, Maharashtra who won the first prizes in the Group I and II respectively in the competition. The Miniature sheet is based on a painting made byAnu Vijayan of Kerala who won the first prize in  Group III of the Competition.
From the year 2006 India Post also started issuing Miniature sheets on the painting of Children.
The drawings on the FDC and the two stamps all depict incidents from the epic “Mahabharat”.
