Protul Chandra Sorcar was born on 23
February 1913 in Ashokpur in theTangail district (now
in Bangladesh) in a poor middle class family.
He was attracted to magic at an early age. He initially learned magic from Shri Ganapati Chakravarti. After passing
the entrance examination in the first division, he graduated with honours in
mathematics in the year 1933. He then took up magic as
a profession.

C. Sorcar was the stage
name of Protul
Chandra Sorcar, a famous magician. He was an internationally active
magician throughout the 1950s and 1960s, performing his Indrajal show
before live audiences and on television. Sorcar died of a heart attack at the
age of 58 in Asahikawa, Hokkaidō, Japan, on January 6, 1971, where he was
performing.
