Dr. J.C. Jain 28.1.1998

Born in 1909, in Baseda, a small village in U.P. Dr. J.C. Jain lost his father in childhood, and the family endured a lot of poverty and hardship. He secured his primary education through Pathshala and Gurukul. There after, he continued his study of Sanskrit, Jain literature and Ayurveda at Benares Hindu University. He began his career as a school teacher at Ajmer, then a princely state of British India. When the headmaster objected to his use of the Gandhi-cap, Dr. Jain preferred to leave the job. Much later, at the Ram Narain Ruia College, Bombay, Dr. Jain worked as Professor of Hindi, Sanskrit and Prakrit for well over 30 years. In 1948, he was the Chief Witness in the Gandhi Murder Trial held at the Red Fort, Delhi.
